Apprenticeships at Codem
An apprenticeship is a chance to earn while you learn, a real job with training that allows you to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
At Codem, we pride ourselves in our active apprenticeship scheme; we currently have 12 apprentices in differing stages of development working towards their Level 3 Composites Technician BTEC Diploma and NVQ.
We are proud to be a finalist at 2019 Peterborough Apprenticship Awards, with Monika Wiacek, our Apprenticeship Training Supervisor winning the Mentor of the Year award, and our apprentice Sam Unsworth, a finalist in the Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year.
These composites-tailored engineering apprenticeships allow apprentices to learn more specialist skills in carbon fibre and other composite materials.
The role will involve carrying out all duties required in the manufacture of composite tools, parts and assemblies, using advanced composite materials. Due to the nature of the work we do at Codem, with clients such as the F1 motorsports industry and military applications, we have seasonal busy periods (Dec-April) where shift work and additional overtime may be required. There is also a requirement to work on bank holidays, therefore we are looking for individuals who can work flexibly to ensure we can hit our customers' deadlines.
The role also includes weekly day release study at iMET, Alconbury Weald. For more details about iMET, please visit their website: www.imet.co.uk
The three year apprenticeship will see you gain a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Composites Engineering and a NVQ Level 3 in Composites Engineering (QCF). On completion of the apprenticeship, you are eligible to apply for Engineering Technician (EngTech) status with the Institute of Materials (IOM3) and/or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMecheE)
Typically, on completion of your apprenticeship, you will become a qualified Composite Technician. It is usual to specialise in either laminating or trimming, depending upon your natural preferences and ability.
